Election of 1932 – FDR wins in a landslide. “I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people.”
Between his election in November 1932 and his inauguration in March 1933, people feared FDR would abandon the gold standard. Bank runs increased. 38 states declared Bank holidays that shut down banks temporarily to Avoid bank runs.
FDR brought his “Brain Trust” – his closest advisors to Washington. They disagreed on many things, but they all agreed that they needed to take bold action.
The Hundred Days The first 100 days of FDR’s presidency saw a flurry of legislation to get the country back on track. Congress passed 15 major acts during the 100 days.
