  2. Purposes • to orientate students in making reports • to develop students’ visual memory and logical thinking • to remove students’ fear of speaking • to individualize the process of teaching • to intensify the process of teaching • to stimulate students’ interest

  4. Substitution table • Describe your father’s (mother’s) appearance. Make use of the substitution table.

  5. Scheme • Make up short dialogues on the topic ‘Our Free Time’. Use the schemes. • Invitation – consent • Invitation – refusal • A general question – an answer • An alternative question – an answer

  6. Scheme Make up a dialogue using the scheme. A: I’d like to play with____________ B: I’m afraid____________________ A: Is he really? B: Yes, he is____________________ He’ll be free in________________

  7. Model Talk about things you like to do in your free time. Use the model. A: What do you like to do in your free time? B: I like to read books and to play with my friends. And what about you?

  9. Plan Tell your classmates about your last summer holidays. Use the following words: • went • rest • fine • visited • helped • was • healthy • swam • played

  10. Plan Tell your English friends about the capital of Ukraine. Use the questions as a plan. • Where is Kyiv situated? • What is Kyiv famous for? • What places of interest can people visit in Kyiv? • How can you travel around the city?

  12. The board • Boards provide a motivating focal point during whole-class grouping. • One of the major technological developments in the last few years has been the interactive whiteboard, the IWB.

  13. The flip chart Flip charts are very useful for making notes, recording the main points in a group discussion, amending and changing points, and for the fact that individual sheets of paper can be thorn off and kept for future reference.

  14. Cards • Cards help to individualize the process of teaching. • They also intensify teaching.

  15. Computers and projectors • The two crucial pieces of hardware are a computer and a data projector. Anything that is on our computer screen can be shown to the whole class using a data projector to put up an enlarged version of it on a screen or a white wall. • Presentation software, such as Power Point, increases our capacity to present visual material in a dynamic and interesting way.

Summary • Verbal support is a real help for teachers and students. • It gives a chance to individualize the process of teaching speaking. • It removes students’ fear of speaking and orientates them in making reports and dialogues. • Verbal support increases our capacity to present material in a dynamic and interesting way.
