Approaches to Employability: The present • The Employer Engagement Strategy 2013-15 encapsulates Keele’s new ambitions for employability/work experience • The Strategy sets out many ambitions in order to augment employability/work experience at Keele • The Strategy takes effect in 2013 and includes following key ambitions…..
Employer Engagement Strategy 2013-15 Ambition 1: • NowEmployer Engagement Unit has strategic responsibility for placements in the curriculum • Target to have undergraduate placement module/provision in 10 out of the 14 academic schools by 2015 • Working closely with Heads of Academic Schools
Employer Engagement Strategy 2013-15 Ambition 2: • To ensure employability at Keele is informed by graduate recruiters, established annual Employer Focus Groups • Two groups, one consisting of national employers (e.g Cap Gemini, Santander, Network Rail) and another consisting of local employers • Employers provide suggestions and feedback on all aspects of employability at Keele – positive outcomes such as Network Rail working with School of Phy & GeoScience
Employer Engagement Strategy 2013-15 Ambition 3: • Establish placement code of practice in line with new QAA protocol (section B10) • Working group consisting of representation from academic schools and legal team
Employer Engagement Strategy 2013-15 Ambition 4: • Consolidate our graduate internship offer • Establish mechanism for graduates to locate their own internship employer; Unit will then reward that employer via grant to offset graduate intern’s salary • Augments number of employers we can access

Definitions • Placements A period of time spent in a workplace in which the student completes activity that (usually) has relevance to their academic studies. It may be assessed or non-assessed, but is formally recognised as a part of the degree/curriculum. • Employability ‘a set of achievements, understandings and attributes that make individuals more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations.’ (Little, 2006, p2.)
