“Rebirth” in Europe: ________________________________________________________ Loosening the power of the Church • During the Middle Ages, art and learning were centered on the church and religion • At the start of the 14th century, people became less interested in thinking about God, heaven and the saints • Instead, they began thinking about themselves, their surroundings and their everyday lives This is the beginning of the Renaissance! A renaissance is a rebirth or revival of learning.
“Rebirth” in Europe: ________________________________________________________ Renaissance: • The Renaissance was a time of cultural and artistic renewal • As a result of this “rebirth”, Europe will finally start to pull itself out of the Middle Ages The Middle Ages are ending? Well, that only took about 1000 years.

What have you done today?
“Rebirth” in Europe: ________________________________________________________ Modern Renaissance Men: I’m a grammy award winning recording artist, I own my own record label, part of the New Jersey Nets, Rocawear, and I’m politically active. It’s not just men! Can you think of anyone like me, who is good at a whole lot of different things? I’m getting degrees at two different colleges, I paint, write screenplays, I fought Spiderman, and I was nominated for an Oscar!
