WSP: Grow & Excel British Cycling Go-Ride Programme Aims: • Development of new and existing Go-Ride clubs • Increase the number of new participants in Go-Ride clubs • Continue to develop existing participants in Go-Ride clubs • Identify talent potential athletes through the Go-Ride programme Sport England Key Performance Indicators: • 48 New Go-Ride Clubs • 5% Increase in the number of British Cycling U18 members • 140 Athletes emerging from Go-Ride Programme onto Talent Pathway • 80 Volunteer Co-ordinators in Go-Ride clubs • 300 Young people undertaking Cycling Award for Young Volunteers

  4. 2010 Programmes School Coaching Programmes: • Blend of curriculum and extra-curricular delivery over 6-8 wks • Inter-school competition • Demonstration / transition sessions Community Coaching Programmes: • Club support sessions over 6 to 8 sessions • Activity Coaching Programmes (Holiday Clubs) • Demonstration / Transition sessions • Go-Ride Racing new How? • Work closely with Go-Ride clubs – they hold the key to developing the future of the sport

  5. Racing -Inspiration to Participation • Club officials receive training in Go-Ride Racing. They get equipment to put on entry level races, including gantry and banners, plus Go-Ride & Sky / Team Sky merchandise as prizes

Skyride Schools – newegEaling& Hounslow Skyride School – Led rides Each Skyride School will receive a package of led rides which encourage children and families to join a 4 week programme which provides the stimulus to join city, local rides and clubs that have engaged the school and are ready to support recreational cyclists Skyride School - Cycling Festival Primary school cycling festival hosted on school site to stimulate interest in continued activity and market/sign up for led rides. Bespoke festival model to fit schools facilities and local circumstances supported by BC/Sky staff, adopted club as an exit route, branding and promotional material i.e. sponsorship ride, involve local cycle businesses, races, fun activities Bike-ability Primary school activity - 100,000 young people engaged in training in primary sector – no current exit route to sustain interest. British Cycling entering market but also need to embrace myriad of organisations involved and harness effort – empower them with resources

  13. Female Participation Focus • The gap between male and female participation in sport is widening

Female Participation - Cycling • 2.34% of the adult female population participate in one session of cycling per week, compared to 6.77% of males • Number of people participating in one session of cycling per week has increased in past 12 months – but female participation has decreased • There is massive growth potential: latent demand of 1.9 million people wishing to cycle - 38% female • Cycling is ranked second in the most popular sports that women want to participate in • The Go-Ride programme encourages girls as much as boys, but the uptake is generally, but not always, lower
