  1. Common Types of Dementia Type Some Attributes Alzheimer’s disease Most common type; 60-80% of dementia cases. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Fatal disorder that causes dementia; due todisease (CJD) protein misfolding (e.g., prions); linked to mad cow disease. Dementia with Lewy Like AD but with Parkinsonian-like symptoms; bodies (DLB) involves Lewy body (alpha-synuclein) deposits. Frontal-temporal Progressive aphasia, Pick’s disease attributes; dementia (FTD) no evident microscopic anomalies in brain; also called frontal-temporal lobar dementia (FTLD) Mixed dementia AD attributes plus one other such as vascular dementia or DLB; may be more common than previously thought. Normal pressure Difficulty walking, controlling urination; due to hydrocephalus fluid build-up in the brain. Parkinson’s Results in dementia like DLB or AD; due to diseaseLewy body (alpha-synuclein) deposits in brain.
