3 Essential Maintenance Tips for Diesel Fuel Injectors The diesel fuel engines are different from old petrol engines. While petrol engines use carburetors to mix air and fuel in the right proportion and then send this mixture for further combustion process, diesel engines have dedicated parts called the diesel fuel injectors that injects fuel directly into the cylinder. Like every machine, a diesel fuel injector is also susceptible to wear and tear over time that can downgrade its performance. But regular maintenance can enhance its performance over time. Let’s see how: Use of acetone and brushes Professional garages use modern ultrasonic machine for cleaning the injectors. If you have a little mechanical skill, then you can pull out and disassemble the injector by yourself. After disassembling, clean the diesel fuel injector with a metal brush to remove all deposited ash, sludge and other visible impurities out. Now, give it an acetone bath which will remove the unseen deposits from the injector. Using acetone is advisable as it’s a powerful solvent that can dissolve grease, sludge, ashes and other micro deposits from surface and hidden parts of the injector. Use of Injector cleaners In modern diesel engines, the diesel fuel injectors are quite advanced. They are controlled electronically and discharge accurate amount of fuel directly into the cylinder. A minute amount of ash or sludge can block it, which results in less output of power and exhaust to yield black smoke. In order to avoid this smoke condition, regular use of branded diesel injector cleaner additive, at least once a month is recommended. Injector cleaners increase the efficiency and performance of the engine by dissolving harmful deposits and sludge from the diesel injectors. Use of Premium diesel An easy way to increase the life of diesel fuel injector is to use premium diesel. It is bit costly than regular diesel, but it comes with many benefits. Premium diesel not only reduces the friction in the engine but also addresses fuel oxidation problem and helps in dissolving the clog from the diesel fuel injectors. It is premium because it lacks Nano impurities which normal diesel has. It is the refined form of regular diesel.
