Mines are NOT playgrounds! Each year DOZENS of children & adults are injured or killed from accidents that occur at active and abandoned mines.
FATALITIES Many deaths occur in non-mining related accidents on mine property. In 2004 – 35 people died nationwide 2 in Pennsylvania. In 2003 – 28 people died nationwide 3 in Pennsylvania. In 2002 – 31 people died nationwide 4 in Pennsylvania.
So Far in 2005 THREE people have died in accidents at abandoned mine sites in Pennsylvania • April 10 – A 50-year old man from Melcroft died when his ATV overturned and crushed him while he was backing down a hill. • May 8 – A Bentleyville couple died when their ATV plunged over a 60-foot cliff at a mine waste pile.

ABANDONEDFAN HOUSE Although this doesn’t look dangerous, there are many hidden dangers. • Both animals and insects, especially spiders, love living in old deserted locations like this. • Loose bricks continue to deteriorate and fall out. • Broken glass and other debris could cause falls.
