  1. Who caused the Whitman Massacre? By: Jacob Miller

  2. There are many perspectives on events in history. There were two main perspectives about who cased the Whitman Massacre. One viewpoint is from the White man and the Cayuse Indian. Both perspectives leading up to and beyond the Whitman Massacre are important. I will began with the Cayuse Indian perspectives followed by the White man perspective.

  3. According to WA Our Home history book in 1831 four of them went to St. Louis to talk to William Clark so he could send missionaries so they can learn the White man and there gods (knives, axes, and carvings).

  4. In 1836 Marcus and Narcissi Whitman started the Whitman Mission in Oregon Country seven miles west of Walla Walla, WA.

  5. According to the Cayuse War in 1842 Pioneers start traveling on the Oregon Trail. Diseases were brought to the Cayuse Indian.

  6. According to the Whitman Massacre in 1847 they killed the Whitman’s. The Whitman Massacre lasted three days.

  7. Governor Stevens, between the years 1854-1856 asked the Indians to sign treaties which the Indians gave up their land and the Cayuse Indians were put on reservations. Now for the Whitman's viewpoint.

  8. According to WA Our Home history book in 1831 four Cayuse Indians trivial to St. Louis to talk to William Clark so he could send missionaries so they could understand the White man and their gods(knives, axes, and carvings). The only way the missionaries came is because the Indians wanted to learn the white man’s realign.

  9. In 1836 Marcus and Narcissi started the Whitman Mission seven miles west of Walla Walla, WA. The Whitman were trying to convert the Cayuse Indians to Christianity.

  10. According to the Cayuse War in 1847 the Whitman are killed by the Indians. Eliza Spalding who was ten years old said that Dr. was helping the Indians get medicine when he was hit in the head with a tomahawk and killed him. That signaled the attack and killed the white people at the mission.

  11. Governor Stevens, between the years 1854-1856 sign ten treaties with the Indians. The Cayuse Indians gave up their land and put on reservations.

  12. In conclusion I think the Cayuse cased the Whitman Massacre because the Whitman were trying to help the Indians by giving them medicine that tried to heal them but didn’t work because they didn’t have it in there system.
