Top 10 tips • Make friends in admin, finance and HR • Find a mentor - your agony aunt and career adviser in one • Network with other new consultants in your area, plan to meet regularly for peer support • Suspend any cynicism about procedures such as appraisal and job plans • Use them to your advantage
Top 10 tips 5. Give regular feedback to your junior staff, not just in clinical supervision. • Be approachable, positive and inspiring • Don’t be afraid to criticise, where it is due 6. Be big enough to say “thank you” and brave enough to say “I don’t know”.
