  2. HB 1530 (Davis)Virginia Acts of Assembly Chapter 517 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: § 1. The Board of Education shall make recommendations to the Governor and the Chairmen of the House Committee on Education and the Senate Committee on Education and Health no later than November 1, 2018, relating to: (i) strategies for eliminating any stigma associated with high school career and technical education pathways and the choice of high school students to pursue coursework and other educational opportunities in career and technical education and related fields such as computer science and robotics and (ii) the consolidation of the standard and advanced diplomas into a single diploma and the creation of multiple endorsements for such diploma to recognize student competencies and achievements in specific subject matter areas.

Highly Visible Mass Marketing Campaign Focus: • Enhance positive perceptions about Career and Technical Education (CTE) • Raise awareness of the CTE opportunities and outcomes • Highlight 21st Century and emerging career options

Strategies • Examples: • Promotional Campaign – Media presence with consistent branding • Tell the Story - Highlight success stories, partnerships, programs, and rigorous plans of study • Tools for continuity in messaging and reporting across Commonwealth • Communication tools and resources • College, Career, and Civic Readiness Index (CCCRI)

  5. Study Group - Diploma Next Steps: • Convene a study group to meet with Delegate Davis • Meet two times before end of calendar year • Submit recommendations for the Virginia Board of Education to consider in January 2019
