MS-Liitto in general • The Finnish MS Society looks after the interests of people with MS and rare progressive neurological diseases as well as their families. • There is no curing treatment for these diseases, but the quality of life of most of patients can be improved by medication, rehabilitation, exercise and peer support. • About 7,000 people in Finland suffer from the disease. www.ms-liitto.fi
MS disease • Neurological disease with a variety of symptons • Cause not clear, but thought to be part DNA part virus/infection when young. • Symptoms include: Vision impairment, changes in sense of touch, tiredness, trouble in moving, trouble with memory, focus and thinking. • Also can include depression, hard to control bladder and ”nervous pain” which usually is very strong.
MS and PA • General good condition helps to prevent inflammation and maintain body balance, muscle strenght, ability to exercise and enhance mental well-being. • MS does not prevent PA but the activities have to be adapted due to the limitations. • Finding a proper hobby is a part of an open discussion with a special sports designer. • SLU Käypä hoito –treatment (general guidelines 30 minutes a day..)
