There are many uses of the internet in the government • Research • Communication • Exchanging information • Chartering • Maintaining currency of training or education • Administration or applications for contracts or grants • Announcements www.octo.dc.gov/octo/cwp/view.com
Internet has a possibility of liberating citizens from traveling to offices for: • Processing licenses • Taxes • Fines • Passports The internet allows the government to disseminate information at extremely low cost by avoiding printing, shipping and handling.
About 32% of employees in public administration reported using the internet at work • Public dissemination is one of the most popular uses of the internet in government • Government employees rated the highest in internet use compared to finance, insurance and real estate workers
Cont’d • A study held by (ICMA) International City/ County Management Association found that 94% of the 1900 local government respondents had an internet site or planned to have one within a year
The future of the government • The main objective for the future of government internet is to eliminate any forms now processed by paper and this can be done by: -Reducing the volume of paper deliveries -Reducing filing and spacing -Reducing moving and storing paper • Doing this will improve the speed and cost-effectiveness of government’s sharing information and data to each other
Improvements for the internet in the government • Virtex’s C3ommunicator allows the government to deliver briefings and other ways of communication over the internet. • The briefings and conferences are able to be saved in case a member is unable to attend making them accessible to view at any time • The e-government also works with departments in the governments to deliver efficiency savings while improving the delivery of public services by joining up electronic government services around the needs of customers.

Yes they do • What do they use it for? They search for different patents offices sometimes in other countries. • What work related activities do you use the internet for? I use it for search engines and online dictionaries.

There are always ways to improve it but as of right now I believe that it is fine the way it is. • Do you feel that one day the internet will eliminate the use of paper forms and strictly use online documents? Yes, that is how we cooperate now. We are already paperless you can submit everything online through e-filing

Allow more internet speed and space to their workers • Do you feel that one day the internet will eliminate the use of paper forms and strictly use online documents? Yes I do it is being done now

Yes, the internet has increased in security, speed, transferring files, and programming
