More about Nelson….. • He is a master of disguise • He is of German descent • He feels very bad about nobody liking him for who he is and is extremely happy about new friends. • A teacher once tried to make a teacher’s pet out of Nelson after he passed a test with an A +.
The Real Story (1) PART 1- NELSON Ms. Hawkinson saw the other side of Nelson. He was an extremely troubled kid who deep inside she found some kindness hidden in his heart. She deeply believed that everybody deserved a second chance, even Nelson. Ms. Hawkinson claims that it was all an accident. Nelson fell unconscious due to extreme fatigue from the pushups and when all the teachers (who for various reasons went to the MSMC) saw him sprawled on the floor, they panicked and did not know what to do. So, they did their own thing, and this explains the impression evidence found in the crime scene. When Nelson finally woke up, he hurried out of the MSMC, through the ISM gate and to Market-Market where he stayed briefly and tried to regain his bearings. He wanted out of his troubled world and saw an opportunity to escape. Having found a confidante in Ms. Hawkinson, Nelson quickly got in touch with her and told her the whole story.
The Real Story (2) PART 2- MS. HAWKINSON Ms. Hawkinson was a former Grade level coordinator and during team meetings would hear stories about the dreaded Nelson. She visualized an image of Nelson who tormented not only students but was such a nightmare to teachers as well. However, Ms. Hawkinson felt challenged by this young man. She surmised that Nelson was just one lost kid who needed an advocate- an adult who would guide him to the right path. And so, when the school year started, Ms. Hawkinson started to get to know Nelson in class a lot better. As expected, it was not an easy task as Nelson had perfected the craft of building walls and showing his tough guy image especially to his teachers. Eventually, Nelson’s walls finally crumbled. Nelson found an adult whom he could trust. Getting an A+ in her class was Nelson’s greatest achievement in his Middle School career. Ms. Hawkinson remembers an essay he wrote about his yearning to reconnect with his extended family in Germany whom he once visited when he was seven. When her phone rang, she immediately recognized Nelson’s troubled voice and felt compelled to help him.
The Real Story 3 PART 3- The Cover up Ms. Hawkinson knew that school was no longer the right environment for Nelson. He needed to start fresh. Ms. Hawkinson quickly made her way to the MSMC to examine the “crime scene”. Along the way, she saw the Gorilla trying to scamper out of the MSMC. She saw fear in the Gorilla’s eyes and when she tried to stop him, the Gorilla with its long hands, tried to push her away and thus, scraping and ruining her stockings. She took off her stockings and then she saw Mr. Juteau. Mr. Juteau seemed dazed and was in deep thought. She gestured him to call Security.
The Real Story 3 PART 4 - Mr. Juteau and the “Juteau Cup” The Juteau Cup was one of his prized possessions. It symbolized all the dedication and hard work that he put into his craft. Losing the cup was like taking away a huge chunk of his life. And then he thought of Nelson. Nelson has always been the antithesis of what he believed in. In PE class, Nelson was lazy and was always questioning why “he had to do this and that”. He despised setting goals and all he had in mind was “having fun”. Mr. Juteau was determined to “soften” Nelson. One day, he ordered Nelson to do extra routines in PE. Nelson was so mad that he pushed a boy named David (he was brought to the clinic for treatment) and was heard mumbling words that sounded like “Someday, I’ll get back at you #/?#$” Next: Summer is Coming (in The Winds of Summer)
