CCSO Instructional Sites • Mission • to serve academic and instructional computing • provide a flexible environment in which computers can function as an integral part of the instructional process
Instructional Sites: Functions • Computer classroom • reserved for hands-on instruction, demo, and special events • Delivery point for instructional materials • class notes, assignments, data files, applications • General walk-in computing • email, news, web browsing, productivity tools

Instructional Sites: Staffing • ~125 student sites consultants • labs are staffed 1900hrs/week • 6-7 student technical specialist • 7 full-time professionals • management of servers, desktop clients, OS installs & upgrade • investigating new technologies • hiring, training, scheduling student consultants • hardware maintenance / repair • documentation, general administration, payroll
Instructional Sites: Servers • (6) Dell Pentiums running Novell IntranetWare 4.11 (fail-over after client reboot) • master server initiates incremental updates once each night, full rebuild every Saturday • Cheyenne ARCserve used for replication and server backups
Instructional Sites: Desktop Clients • hourly integrity check of each desktop client (checkup) • application key serving of applications (soon to be integrated into a database for usage tracking and analysis) • 520 desktop computers • 60% MACs (MAC OS ver 7.5.3 ->7.6.1) • 40% PCs (Windows 95) • New purchases, more PCs • MAC /PC totals = 50/50
Instructional Sites: Networking • upgrading to switched ethernet 10baseT • ~$425/port including cat 5 wiring • most labs connected to backbone via 100Mb/sec fiber • most servers on 100Mb/sec ethernet • Virtual Lan switching technology
