The IEEE 802 JTC1 SC will review the upcoming SC6, SC6/WG1 & SC6 HoD meeting agendas • IEEE 802 and the National Bodies were required to submit agenda items by 10 Jan 2012 • The SC6 agenda is very generic and not directly relevant to IEEE 802 because most of the work will be done in WG1 and the HoD meeting • The SC6 secretariat has not yet published a detailed agenda for SC6/WG1 (the WG of interest to IEEE 802) • Although there is a draft agenda from Oct 2011 • Nothing new as of 6 February 2012 • Hopefully a new version will be published soon • The SC6 HoD meeting will discuss SC6 procedural issues • Internationalisation of 802 standards • “Best practices” Andrew Myles, Cisco
The IEEE 802 JTC1 SC will review the upcoming SC6/WG1 meeting agenda • Review status of WAPI proposal • The ISO/IEC WAPI project has been cancelled • No news since Jacksonville meeting • Review status of NUHT proposal • It is believed NUHT will be discussed at SC6 meeting • Nufront has not yet replied to a letter from 802.11 WG Chair, in reply to the letter from Nufront • Review status of proposal to replace 802.1X/AE • It is believed this topic will be discussed at SC6 meeting • No news since Jacksonville meeting • Review status of proposal to replace 802.16 security • It is believed this topic will be discussed at SC6 meeting • No news since Jacksonville meeting Andrew Myles, Cisco
The IEEE 802 JTC1 SC will review the upcoming SC6 HoD meeting agenda • The IEEE 802 liaison in relation to internationalisation of 802 standards will be discussed in the NB HoD meeting • It is hoped that the IEEE 802 HoD will be allowed to attend this meeting • The liaison is in an EC document and was submitted as N15075 • There has been no response from any NB to this document so far • Does IEEE 802 want to suggest that SC6 requests submission of IEEE 802.11-2012? • The SC6 “best practices” issue will also be discussed in the NB HoD meeting • It is hoped that the IEEE 802 HoD will be allowed to attend this meeting • Possible IEEE 802 suggestions are in 11-12/29 Andrew Myles, Cisco
The rest of this call will focus on the related proposals based on TePA will be discussed in SC6 • The China NB (really IWNCOMM) have previously proposed two other security related protocols to SC6 • An 802.1X/AE replacement • An 802.16 security replacement • Both these proposals are based on TePA, the three part authentication protocol underlying WAPI • The Chinese NB have submitted documents related to these topics for the SC6 meeting in February 2012 • N15083 - TePA-AC (802.1X replacement) • N15084 - TLSec (802.1AE replacement) • N15085 - MAC Security Requirements for LRWN (802.16 security replacement) Andrew Myles, Cisco
The IEEE 802 JTC1 SC will discuss a proposed presentation related to 802.1X/AE • A number of 802.1 participants and an 802.11 participant have been working on an IEEE 802 response to the Chinese submissions • The IEEE 802 response will be presented by the IEEE 802 HoD at teh SC6 meeting in China • The rest of this teleconference will be spent reviewing the IEEE 802 presentation • No draft is yet available Andrew Myles, Cisco
