Description/ Overview of course: • This course is: • intended to teach communication of ideas through technological methods. • not a course about computers. • all about you learning to use a wide variety of software to communicate your information and ideas. • centered around file management, teamwork, use of a variety of software, presentation and interpersonal communications.

  4. Student Expectations: • Respect for fellow students, instructors, equipment, audience, and any other person or thing dealt with through the course. • Lack of respect will limit a student’s opportunities. • Arrive at class on time • Accept responsibility for absences • Handle all equipment with due care and diligence • Avoid bringing food, including gum, into the 512 lab without permission • Avoid listening to audio devices during class unless required for a project

Etiquette and Ethics: • “..repercussions of information, it may anger some, delight others, but you must be ready to accept the results or edit to a satisfactory point.” anon. • the projects you produce will be shown to a wide audience, therefore, you must produce with the audience in mind. Respect people and cultural diversity. WAKE UP!!!!!!!

  6. Assignments: • Deadlines are set and expected to be met. Late assignments are deducted 25% per week or part of to a maximum of 50%. • Sometimes just hand in what is done, whether it is incomplete or not. • I expect there to be 10 minor projects and 3 or 4 major projects during the course. • This course is completely electronic in format. • All assignments are to be handed in electronically, on time, even if you are on vacation in Mexico!

  7. Assignments: • each student is expected to create their own unique task to be handed in. Plagarism is not acceptable in any way. Do not cut and paste text from the Net. When done it will result in a ZERO (0) mark for the task/project. • Due dates will be on electronic assignment handouts, and further changes may be announced in class. Students are responsible for keeping track of such changes.

Course organizationTopics and software covered: • Vocabulary of technology • Microsoft Word to create a wide variety of documents • Faces -to identity a person, create faces from own photograph, student, mugshot, • Gimp for photo edit repaint an airplane • Adobe Photoshop to edit photos • Powerpoint to create presentations

Course organizationTopics and software covered: • Excel to create workable documents to track personal finance • InDesign : publish a program • Audacity to edit audio files • Windows movie maker for stop action and simple film • Adobe Premiere Elements video editing • Dreamweaver to create a simple website to post their writing, pics, animations and movies

  10. Equipment provided: • Computers, cameras, tripods, projectors, mass storage on school server. WAKE UP!!!!!!!

  11. Materials needed: YOU BRING THIS! • USB drive 8 Gb suggested • Headphones, earbuds • Personal photographs • Email address • Parent email address • Brain, awake, functioning, do not leave it at the door!

  12. Evaluation: • It not whether you pass or fail this course, what is more important is what you learn, how much you grow, and whether you put all your effort in to what do. • Set a high standard of personal accomplishment and accept nothing less. • With that, a pass is assured.

  13. Evaluation: • The assessment criteria for each project will be explained to the students through a rubric. It is the student's responsibility to ensure they understand the requirements listed in the rubric and know where to find it. • projects • quizzes • a test or two.

  14. Project Marking is based on: • fulfillment of the objectives on an assessment rubric, ambition and style in the work submitted, • and technical accomplishment.

  15. Evaluation: • Projects 70% • Test and or Quizzes 20% • Participation 10% everytime I remind you to get back to work , this may drop by 1%

  16. The Rules For All Students • Never leave any equipment unattended.   • Always have at least one hand on the camera at all times. Do not drop any equipment.   • Do not get any equipment wet or dirty. • All tapes are to be kept in their case unless they are in the camera. Do not push down on the taping loading mechanism. • Do not force anything to work. If you have a problem with the equipment, get help. • All equipment must be signed out and in correctly.

The Rules For All Students • All equipment must be returned and signed in 10 minutes before the end of the class.   • Filming students or staff outside of this class is strictly prohibited; no interfering with other classes.   • Filming students from this class is permissible if they agree to being filmed. • No food or drink in the 512 lab • No swearing. • No making fun of others in a derogatory manner. Only school appropriate material is permissible. All music must be school appropriate. • If you cause a problem or break a rule, you own it and deal with the consequences.
