Chapter 17. Our Views of the World. Developing a view of the world. Choose a statement you agree with and tell why. What you choose is a reflection of your world view. It’s a dog eat dog world out there. He who saves one life saves the world. Every cloud has a silver lining.

  2. Developing a view of the world • Choose a statement you agree with and tell why. What you choose is a reflection of your world view. • It’s a dog eat dog world out there. • He who saves one life saves the world. • Every cloud has a silver lining. • Live and let live. • Treat others the way you wish to be treated. • One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.

  3. Read and answer: • Read 256 – 259 and answer #’s 2 & 3 p. 259 • Know and understand the global connections, p.257 Write a note about each. • What is the global village? • If the World was a Village • Shift your thinking! • If the world was a village of 1000 people

Developing a view of the world. • Look at table 17.1 on pg. 259. • What factors have strongly influenced how you view the world? • Read 262. • Define interdependence and global world-view • What are the UN’s goals listed. • Explain figure 17.7 about the mules. How does this apply a global world view?

  5. UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child • Craig Kielburger • Craig and Marc • Review the declaration on pg. 263. Can you think of instances when children do not receive these rights. Is this document important? Why? • Do we as Canadians have a responsibility to help others? Why?

  6. Concern for the environment Richer and Poorer What is the new environmental view which has been recognized for centuries by Aboriginal peoples around the world? (3) What does sustainable mean?

  7. Cartoons • Examine the following cartoons. What is the message? Which do you feel is the most effective?

  11. Becoming a Contributing Member of the Global Community • Review the suggestions on pp. 268 – 269. What 3 would you be willing to do? Why? • Review: • Understand Global Connections, and the mule cartoon.
