Model for LC TPC DAQ studies • data rate determined by backgrounds • 1.3 · 10⁶ pads X 1000 t.b. = 1.3 · 10⁹ voxels ( 1 voxel ≡1 word ) • 0.3% background occupancy (TDR value) in one TPC ‘picture’ (one ‘picture’ ≡ 50µsec drift time) • ⇒ 0.39·10⁷ words in 50µsec, i.e., 150 BX (Tesla) or 192 BX (NLC) • For words/sec, multiply by 100 (20 pict./train X 5 train/s) for Tesla or 120 (train/s) for NLC • ⇒ 0.39·10⁹ words/sec for Tesla and NLC, • i.e., 80Mwords/train for Tesla or 3Mwords/train for NLC • ⇒ 4 Gbit/sec for Tesla and NLC with a 10-bit digitizer • CMS designing for 50-500Gbit/sec, so that DAQ SF (safety factor) ≈ 10-100, i.e. that much more background tolerable in TPC from DAQ point of view… LC TPC DAQ Issues -- Cornell LC Workshop July 2003
