  2. Orthopaedic Surgery Internship Fulfills requirements for: • Orthopaedic Surgery • General Surgery • Navy GMO No room left for electives!

  3. Operating Rooms • Main OR has 17 OR suites • 3-4 for Ortho daily • Ambulatory Surgery Center has 4 OR suites • Ortho/Podiatry uses three daily • Fully staffed 5 days a week • BLDG 3, 6th Floor

  4. Orthopaedic Internship • 2 blocks Orthopaedic Surgery • 3 blocks General Surgery • 1 block each: • Internal Medicine • Emergency Medicine • OB/GYN -Trauma/SICU/Burns • Anesthesia - Pediatric Surgery • Plastic Surgery - Neurosurgery

  6. How to become an Orthopaedist! • Orthopaedic Internship Year – 3-4 billets per year • *Possibility of an Operational Tour (1-3 yrs) • Pre-approved for PGY-2! *New – NMCP Orthopaedics is awaiting approval for straight through residency

  8. An Intern’s Schedule • 2 days surgery • 2 days clinic • Friday academic day • Anatomy dissections • Lectures • Hands-on labs Books!

  11. Orthopaedic Surgery Workload • Over 6000 outpatients visits monthly • Over 300 surgeries monthly Tremendous volume + Amazing pathology Plenty of hands-on training!

  12. Surgery Simulator • Arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder

  14. Bioskills Lab - Wet side

  15. Pediatrics – 2 Spine – 2 Hand – 2 Foot & Ankle/ Traumatology - 3 Sports Med – 4 Joint Recon – 2 Ortho Oncology-1 Chiropractor - 3 Orthopaedic Staff And only 12 Residents

  16. Academic Track Record • 5 year accreditation by the RRC • No boards failures (parts I and II) in nine years • 76% or better on OITE last 4 years • Numerous publications last two years in peer reviewed journals and textbooks
