  2. What is Skype? • Internet call • Screen sharing • Drag and drop file sharing • Conference Call • Download for Mac or PC • App available for smartphones and tablets

  3. How to Skype? • Need a computer with microphone and Internet connection (Internal camera or webcam necessary for video calls) • Download Skype (www.skype.com) and create an account • Add contacts • All parties need to be online

  4. Skype Projects • Mystery Skype • Guest Lectures/Experts • Connect with other classrooms – Native American studies • Ask an Author

  5. Mystery Skype Goal Cooperate as a Team to guess the location of the school!

  6. Mystery Skype Teams • Inquirers • In charge of asking relevant, closed questions • Question Keepers • Keep track of the question as it was asked as well as the response—review the information already shared

  7. Mystery Skype Team cont. • Google Mappers • Use online maps to search the clues and share information to create new question • Runner • Multi-tasker in charge of solving any problems that others might have

  8. Mystery Skype Team cont. • Logical Reasoners • In charge of using given information to try and remove possible states (puzzle of US could be used) • Clue Keepers • Use maps to mark down any relevant information, cross out, circle, dot areas

Mystery Skype Rules • Students can only ask closed questions (yes or no answers). • Classes go back and forth asking questions to help them find the location. • When turn to ask question, if receive a yes answer, keep asking until they get a no answer. • When no answer, other school’s turn to ask questions.

  11. Skype with an Expert Scientist - Wetlands Project • How do wetlands develop? • Why do we see so much algae in the Susquehanna River? • How did the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico affect the Chesapeake Bay? • What kind of education do you need to become a wetland expert?

Native American Project • Grant County • Studies of ND Native Americans • Created questions of discussion – sent to teacher at Warwick • Each team Took turns asking their specific question • Warwick • Students were given questions to research if they didn’t know the answer • Miss Spirit Lake spoke in native language and her dance experiences • Students talked about some of their customs and ceremonies
