About 5000 Compressed Bio About 5000 Compressed Bio- -Gas Plant will be set be set- -up in India by 2023 up in India by 2023 Gas Plant will According to some reports and news published, India is looking to setup around 5000 Compressed Biogas Plants in India by 2023. Earlier this year, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan said that these plants are aimed at gas extraction from cattle-dung, agricultural waste and municipal solid waste. The annual compressed biogas production is estimated to be about 15 million tonnes.
During the road show which was organized by oil companies, he urged the stake-holders to participate in SATAT initiative. SATAT stands for Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation. Under the SATAT initiative the government is looking to produce CBG from agricultural residue and promote it. SATAT brings a number of benefits as it will create new job opportunities, contribute to economic growth and all round development of India. The SATAT initiative is aimed at boosting availability of affordable transport fuel and optimum utilization of cattle-dung, municipal solid waste and agricultural residue. CBG can be easily produced from press-mud, spent water of distilleries, sewage water and biodegradable fractions of industrial waste as well. CBG is a wonderful substitute to CNG (Compresses Natural Gas). As of now the total fuel consumption of natural gas in India is approximately 140 MMSCMD which is twice the production of the domestic CNG production. The remainder is being imported which is a burden on the nation right now. Compressed Bio-gas (CBG) is being seen as a potential alternative to CNG as India looks forward to becoming a gas based economy. The government is looking to increase the share of natural gas from 6% to 15% by the year 2022. Benefits of CBG There are numerous benefits of adopting CBG. Below are listed just a few of them: 1.Bio-gas is eco-friendly Biogas is a renewable source of energy which reduces emissions of green house gases. It is a great way to curb global warming as there is extremely reduced emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. 2.Reduces pollution Biogas production reduces water and soil pollution and hence it leads to significant improvement in terms of hygiene and sanitation. Anaerobic digestion neutralizes pathogens and parasites which helps reduce waterborne diseases as well. 3.Production of Organic Fertilizer
As a by-product enriched organic (digestate), makes for a perfect alternative to chemical fertilizers. Unlike commercial fertilizers, this organic fertilizer doesn’t lead to toxic effects or food poisoning. 4.Low Cost Technology Among many other benefits it offers, producing biogas at a very low cost is another one. The waste product of one cow is enough to power up a lightbulb for one entire day. If you have any queries about compressed biogas production or how to setup a biogas plant in India, drop us a line.
