SHOCOTEC SHOCOTEC Short Time Contacting Process for the Desulphurisation of Renewable Gaseous Energy Carriers Martin Miltner, Aleksander Makaruk, Ass.Prof. Michael Harasek mharasek@mail.zserv.tuwien.ac.at
SHOCOTEC The project • Funded by Austrian national grant (FFG) • Duration: 24 months • Started in January 2012 • Partners: • Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics, TU Vienna • Axiom Angewandte Prozesstechnik GmbH • QuantaRed Technologies GmbH
SHOCOTEC Key facts • Develop a novel process for the desulphurisation of renewable gaseous energy carriers • Focus: biogas and producer gas from wood steam gasification • Based on already developed technology of chemical-oxidative scrubbing • Enhancement of process intensification, separation selectivity and plant economics • Development and application of advanced laser-spectroscopic analysis methods
SHOCOTEC Example: simplified flowsheet of biogas upgrading plant for the production of biomethane to be injected to the natural gas grid adsorption: removal residual H2S adsorption: removal of TOC, tar, … gaspermeation: CO2 separation product gas biomethane (CH4 rich) chemicals cooling (drying) raw gas compression reheating effluent offgas (CO2 rich) H2S scrubbing • Raw gas desulphurisation is integral part of gas upgrading • Especially crucial at elevated H2S-contents in raw gas or if high fluctuations in gas quality or quantity are to be expected
SHOCOTEC Commercially available process: Chemical-oxidative scrubbing at biogas upgrading plant with natural gas grid injection at Bruck/Leitha, Austria • Development towards: • Short-time contacting process • Highly compact and intensified • Precise analysis of reactant concentration
