  2. Public vs. Private • Public – funded by state gov’t, cheaper, larger class sizes • Private – rely on tuition and contributions, more costly, smaller class sizes

  3. WHY PRIVATE COLLEGES? • Private colleges are intensely unique • They create an atmosphere that is truly their own • Private universities, although expensive, are not out of your financial reach, have smaller class sizes, and aim for academic excellence.

  4. TUITION • Financial Aid Packages • Grants • Merit Scholarships • Need-Based Aid

  5. SMALLER CLASS SIZES • Collaboration Time • More Feedback for Students • Opportunity to Learn From Peers • Personalized Attention

  6. ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE • Learning is the emphasis more than the curriculum itself • Curriculum is rigorous • Course-work is unending, but learning is the central focus

  7. While cost may be an important consideration for you, don’t let that entirely govern your college choice, at least initially. • So, while lower tuition may make public colleges and universities attractive to you, don’t give up on the pricier private schools that may provide good financial aid.
