Project Overview Aims of the project
Project Aims • To allocate SCQF credit and level to SVQs • Consider other possible methodologies and where appropriate, test them • Work with QCA, CQFW and DCELLS to test the process across the UK • Contribute to the development processes to be used in future years with respect to the credit and levelling of SVQs (and NVQs)
Project Aims con’t • Examine the articulation between the SCQF the emerging QCF and the CQFW with respect to framework levels of SVQs and NVQs • Refine the current draft guidance for the credit and levelling of SVQs
SCQF Credit Rating of SVQs • SQA Accreditation with funding from the Scottish Government, contracted with Sector Skills councils, Standard Setting Bodies and Awarding Bodies with the aim of allocating and SCQF level and calculating SCQF credit points to SVQ units. • This is a three year project with funding ending in March 2008
SVQ Credit Rating • Two years of testing methodologies prior to the commencement of the project • Evolving the “theory” from the testing period into an actual process • Development of guidance and recording documentation • Establishment of a training programme for participants in SVQ credit rating
Who is involved • Sector Skills Councils • Standard Setting Bodies • Awarding Bodies • SQA Accreditation
The Methodology • Liaise with the SSC/SSB/AB • Training event • EVs undertake the credit rating • Standardisation
SCQF Levelling of SVQs • 12 SCQF levels ranging from access to doctorate • The allocation of SCQF level to an SVQ unit is about “professional judgement” • In allocating SCQF level to an SVQ unit “best fit” is applied
SCQF Credit Rating of SVQs • 1 SCQF credit point per 10 Notional Learning Hours • The allocation of SCQF credit points to an SVQ unit is about “professional judgement • The calculation of SCQF credit is arrived at by estimating the amount of time required by the “average learner” to achieve the outcomes in the unit
SVQ Credit Rating • The methodology has been used in all of the individual projects • Brings consistency to the project where we have qualifications with no design rules • The methodology for SCQF credit rating of SVQs detailed in the guidance document is one methodology for credit rating
