  2. 1. BE ON YOUR GUARD (“WATCH” KJV) (1 Cor. 16:13a). 5 POWERFUL PRINCIPLES FOR LIFE

  3. The word translated “to be on guard/watch” is used 22 times in the New Testament. There are 6 categories of things to be on guard for. A. SATAN –1 Peter 5:8 1. BE ON YOUR GUARD

  4. “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him…” 1 Peter 5:8 A. SATAN

  5. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” Mark 14:38 “Let us be alert and self-controlled.” 1 Thess. 5:6 B. TEMPTATION

  6. “Wake up! Strengthen what remains…but if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.” Rev. 3:1-3 C. APATHY AND INDIFFERENCE

  7. “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers…savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock…So be on your guard!” Acts 20:28-31 D. FALSE TEACHERS

  12. 1. BE ON YOUR GUARD (WATCH). • 2. STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH (1 Cor. 16:13b). • “The faith” is what you believe, doctrine. Satan can’t ever take your salvation away; but, he can obscure the content of the life transforming truths you believe in. 5 POWERFUL PRINCIPLES FOR LIFE

  14. “Until we all…become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.” Eph. 4:13-14 A.   16. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Gal. 5:22-23 C. FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

  17. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 1 Tim. 3:16-17 D. DOCTRINE

  18. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Tim. 4:12 E. MORAL PURITY

  19. 1. BE ON YOUR GUARD (WATCH). • 2. STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH. • 3. BE (WO)MEN OF COURAGE. • 4. BE STRONG (1 Cor. 16:13d). • Literally, “all of you keep on being strengthened by God.” • 2nd person plural, present tense, imperative mood, passive voice. 5 POWERFUL PRINCIPLES FOR LIFE

  20. “I CAN DO EVERYTHING THROUGH HIM WHO GIVES ME STRENGTH.” Phil. 4:13 4. BE STRONG

  21. “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” Eph. 3:16-17 4. BE STRONG

  22. John 15 He is the vine and we are the branches. Without Him we can do nothing. • “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Eph. 6:10 4. BE STRONG

  23. “Come to me…take my yoke upon you and learn from me….” Matt. 11:28-30 • I will give you “living water…whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:10-14 4. BE STRONG

  26. Paul--But if I “have not love, I am nothing.” 1 Cor. 13 • Peter—”Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 • John—”Let us love one another, for love comes from God.” 1 Jn. 4:7 5. DO EVERYTHING IN LOVE

  27. Jesus—”Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matt. 22:37-40 5. DO EVERYTHING IN LOVE

  28. “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” • If you fail at love, you will fail at life. 5. DO EVERYTHING IN LOVE
