Should You Buy A Should You Buy A Standby Standby Generator? Generator?
At Blades Power Generation, we keep an eye out as to what is going on in our industry, as you would expect, and the other day we spotted an article with exactly the same title that you just read. It was published online in the US on August 25th2019 – just over three years ago. The article stated that to some extent, the choice of whether or not to buy a standby generator was a personal one, because for some people the chance of being inconvenienced by even a single power outage warrants such apurchase. But it went on to argue that it really depends on the chances of a power outage.
Three years ago, in the UK, most people would never even think about such an occurrence, but today things are very different. We have had severe storms which have caused the loss of power, which is one thing, but we are also in a situation where there may not be enough gas to produce power. And the wind doesn’t always blow nor the sun shine. Very recently, we have been warned that it might be necessary to turn off the power for three hours a day in some areas. A Winter Of Strikes We also face a winter of strikes. Who is to say that power station engineers might not join the rest of them? No post, no buses, no nurses, no airport staff, no barristers, no port workers at Felixstowe, teachers and refuse workers threatening to down tools – who knows what’s next? As providers of new generators for sale in the UK, you would expect us to agree that you should buy a generator. But today, to quote a certain Derek Trotter, “you know it makes sense”.
Of course, not everyone will be able to buy a generator because if, for instance, you live in a flat, you have nowhere to put one. But if you have got some space, then Del Boy is absolutely right. If you are one of many people today who are looking for new generators for sale in the UK, then obviously we can provide whatever you need. What you need will depend upon how much electricity you need to produce. Generators come in a range of different sizes, and the bigger the generator, the more power it can produce. One option is to buy a generator that can power the whole house, and if you can afford to, then why not? But another option is to buy one that will power just the essential electrical circuits such as central heating, cooker, water heater, and TV and some lighting. That way, when those power outages happen, you can carry on without a care in the world.
