MINDS ON: Community Building Creating an Identity Map
MINDS ON: Community Building Creating an Identity Map Based on the sample Identity Map • create one for yourself using 11x17 paper and markers • share as a whole group • summarize your sharing with how your identity map illustrates the role that your identity plays in learning
MINDS ON: Community Building Think About It! • How does the identity of our students play a role in their learning? • How do we take this into account during instruction and assessment? • These questions will be posted on our WordPress blog page and we will return to these questions during camp

MINDS ON: Learning Goals During Literacy Camp, we are… learning to name, describe, and support understanding the components of adolescent literacy in science & technology. We will: • recognize and value how literacy is different in science & technology • identify and name the needs of the learner (e.g., needs of English Language Learners, subject-specific needs) • determine/select classroom literacy practices that support the individual/identified needs of adolescent literacy development
MINDS ON: Learning Goals During Literacy Camp, we are also… learning to lead learning in order to advance adolescent literacy in science & technology. We will: • identify leadership practices that support learning • identify barriers to change • reflect on and build capacity to enhance personal leadership practices
ACTION: Success Criteria • Individually, write on sticky notes the criteria you think is required to meet the camp’s learning goals • In your table groups, share criteria and decide which ones to include as criteria • Each group completes a “post and pile” on chart paper post your criteria on chart paper at the front; if any are similar/same, then pile it on top of another • This criteria will be used to guide our learning, we will revisit it regularly, and it will be posted on WordPress

How does it relate to my students and my job as an educator? Why am I here today? • What do I hope to learn? • Using your answers to the three questions, consider setting up an inquiry question based on your curiosity of the learning goals. Why the inquiry question? • give people some autonomy in task and time • autonomy does not mean independence • autonomy acting with choice within collaborative space (choice in task and time) – Katz and Dack, 2013
