Our Facilities Serving Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Western Tidewater
Helping Families and Children Adult Services • Case Management, Clinical Counseling, Job Coaching, Healthcare, Life Skills, GED, Tutoring, Housing Placement, Transportation Children’s Services • Education: Tutoring & school advocacy • Enrichment: Sports, Music and Arts, Field Trips, Summer Camps, REACH, “SuperKids” Life Skills • Healthcare: Clinical Counseling, Health Insurance, Immunizations, Physicals & Dental Care
ForKids – 2010 Results • 80% of families exited to appropriate housing • 86% of adults gained employment • 99% of adults set and followed a budget
ForKids FY10 Results – Children • 98% of children under the age of six advanced toward or met their developmental milestones • 100% of children in the program at least 30 days were up to date on immunizations • 99% of children in the program at least 30 days obtained health insurance

Concept The Problem: • ForKids families need household items • ForKids receives many donations • ForKids lacks infrastructure Solution: • Income producing thrift store • ForKids managed • Paid staff and volunteers • Drop off sites at all ForKids staffed locations • Delivery service to FK clients • Utilize FK “Voucher Program”
The Thrift Research • 44 thrift stores regionally (+23 consignment) • 10 in Norfolk (+6 consignment) • Two operating models • Owner operated non-profit • 3rd party for-profit • Growing industry nationally • Maturing industry
Project Details Store Size: 7500 sf retail + 3500 sf warehouse Paid Staff: 2 FT, 5 PT (+volunteers) Hours: Mon-Sat 10AM-7PM Sunday 12PM-5PM Location: Wards Corner (retail center, central to FK donor base)
