5. SURGICAL TECHNICIAN • Scope of Practice • Assists physician during surgery using sterile techniques • Handling of instruments and preparing sterile dressings • Cleaning & setting up operating room for surgeries • Educational requirements • Certificate obtained through Community College, a Technical school, or a Hospital Program. • Not all states require certification or a state license • New Jersey requires a license • National Hourly Salary Range • $17.45-$34.13

6. DIALYSIS TECHNICIAN • Scope of Practice • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines • Assess patients throughout the dialysis process • Provide support to dialysis patients • Keep patient records Educational Requirements • Certificate obtained through Community College, a Technical School, or a Hospital Program. • Not all states require certification or a license. • State certification is required in New Jersey • National Hourly Salary Range • $14.89-$16.70

7. CENTRAL PROCESSING TECHNICIAN (CPT) • Scope of Practice • Specializes in stocking, sterilizing, and preparing tools and equipment for surgical procedures. • Inspect & maintains inventory of tools and supplies • Educational requirements • Training program at a Community College or Vocational School • Some states require certification. • National Hourly Salary Range • $11.00-$19.00

8. LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN) • Scope of Practice • Perform most routine nursing duties under the direction of a register nurse, however, all initial assessments must be done by the RN. • Direct patient care including wound care and the dispensing of medication orally and those given “non-push” by intravenous. • Most licensed practical nurses work in nursing homes, health care institutions, & private homes, Some work in doctors' offices, or clinics.

REGISTERED NURSE (RN) • Scope of Practice • Caring for and treating patients • Performing procedures • Educating patients about diseases and medications • Providing emotional support to patients and their family members • Performing and analyzing medical tests • Administering medication with follow up on patients • Act as mentors to LPNs and PCAs • Registered nurses are employed in a variety of different work settings, such as hospitals, clinics, freestanding surgical units, doctors’ offices

ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE (APN) • Scope of Practice • Conduct physical exams • Order & interpret diagnostic tests • Diagnose and treat common illnesses and injuries • Providing immunizations • Manage chronic conditions • Counseling patients on healthy lifestyles • They practice in hospitals and clinics and often deliver care in rural or inner-city locations not well served by physicians. • Educational requirements • Advanced Practice Nurses are required to have a Masters Degree • National Hourly Salary Range • $35.13-$45.36

13. CLINICAL NURSE SPECILAIST (CNS) • Scope of Practice • Clinical nurse specialists are Advance Practice Nurse who • provides care in specialty areas; such as cardiac, oncology, pediatrics, and psychiatric/mental health. • They work in hospitals and clinics, providing medical care and mental health services, developing quality assurance procedures, and serving as educators and consultants. • Educational requirements • Clinical Nurse Specialist are required to have a Masters Degree • National Hourly Salary Range • $29.26 - $62.08

14. NURSE ANESTHETIST (CRNA) • Scope of Practice • Administer anesthesia services in the operating rooms in hospitals, surgical centers, doctors or dentist offices • Educational requirements • Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program • Pass a certification exam to call yourself a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) Maintain re-certification • National Hourly Salary Range • $47.09 - $101.07

15. CERTIFIED NURSE~MIDWIFE (CNM) • Scope of Practice • Provide routine health care for women, with practices focused on pregnancy and delivery of babies. • Educational requirements • Certified Nurse Midwives are required to have a Masters Degree • Graduation from an accredited program to be eligible to take the examination offered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) • National Hourly Salary Range • $31.70-$62.09

16. PHYSICIAN’ S ASSISTANT (PA) • Scope of Practice • Practice medicine on a team under the supervision of physicians and surgeons • Examine patients, diagnose injuries and illnesses, & provide treatment • Practice in physicians’ offices, emergency room, urgent care facilities • Education Requirements • Masters of Science in addition to formal training through an educational program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) • National Hourly Salary Range • $36.12 - $63.63
