2. What is CASE? • Set of tools to aid in the systems development process • Generally include • diagramming tools • business rules • data repository

3. Which one we will use? • Visible Analyst student edition • Process Modeling (Data Flow Diagrams) • Data Modeling (Entity-Relationship Diagrams) • Repository • It has the ability to generate Access DDL • MIS Lab • Every other machine has VA (8 groups) • Only 2 projects can be created

4. How to start? • What you will see and do: • Main VA screen as show in this image • Create a project from File, New Project • this dialog will open • give a name and description • select Gane & Sarson and leave other options as they are • Create your first diagram • Select File, New Diagram and select the type you want in the example Data Flow • Use this part of the toolbar to draw, and File, Save to save it • You can open your diagram by using File, Open Diagram and selecting from a list like this one

5. Examples • A familiar one -- Print Shop • The VA tutorial project • data flow diagram of DMV • you can also tile two diagrams • by double or right clicking on an object you can define it • data model of the DMV system • you can also define each data element

6. Class demonstration We will see now a class demonstration of VA, very similar to what I have presented.
