Maintain an army by requesting troops from the States. Request (not require) funds from the States to meet the costs of government. Regulate Indian affairs. Figured out a way to add new states to the country Establish post offices.
Goals • Government that doesn’t regulate/limit commerce • Government that allows people to vote and have representation • Expand westward (upset about Proclamation of 1763) • Excessive taxation • More freedom and liberty, less soldiers and violence (Common Sense) (“Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness” – “All men are created Equal”) • African Americans were hoping to gain political freedom…participation in the revolution • Women • REVOLUTION: Drastic change/shift – RADICAL divergence • War for INDEPENDENCE: Separation from England – just Self Rule
