  1. Rare Species Conservatory Foundation BY: Brad Higgins 1/20/10

  2. Goals of this foundation are: • creates sustainable recovery, reintroduction and protection programs for endangered species in the wild • work collaboratively with governments and other conservation/research organizations to restore target species and protect critical habitats • provide consulting and technical services to conservation teams, and forms educational, political and economic partnerships to expedite specific habitat and species conservation projects

  3. Why they feel that they are different from other organizations: • They have a small, focused staff to conceive and execute its programs, doing everything from research in the field, to managing endangered species breeding programs, to writing scientific papers, to fundraising and all administrative functions • This shows that they focus on everything including education to others which is important when talking about the needs of endangered species.

  4. Most Noted Successes include: • For over 20 years RSCF has supported the Golden Lion Tamarin Conservation Program, one of the most successful primate reintroduction projects in history. Once numbering less than 200 individuals in the wild, currently close to 2,000 animals live in the forests of Brazil. • Critically endangered in the wild, the red-browed Amazon parrot was once considered a candidate for extinction. RSCF has successfully bred and managed this species, with the first second generation breeding success in the United States. Program development between RSCF and conservationists in Brazil is under way to eventually repopulate red-brows in their native forests of Brazil.

  5. Current Programs/Areas of Involvement: • The Caribbean • Africa • Mexico

  6. Additional Info: • This is a non-profit organization but, like any other organization I think they would take any type of donation big or small. • If I were not a poor college student, I would love to help in their efforts to saving and re-establishing populations of endangered and rare species. • I think this organization has a hard working crew and by the sounds of it, their reputation shows it!!!!
