  1. ANDY WARHOL ART LESSON: Pre-K/K

  2. Some of Andy’s Art:

  3. So What’s the Big Idea? • Artists often create art work that reflects their unique personality. • Artist expression is very personal, and therefore, should be respected by others.

  4. Essential Questions: • When you look at Andy Warhol’s art work, how does it make you feel? Explain. • If you met Andy Warhol, what do you think he would be like? • How is your art work similar to Andy Warhol’s? How is it different? • Why is your art ‘original’? Explain why it is okay for your art to look different than your classmates.

  5. Lesson Objectives: • Students will be introduced to the artist Andy Warhol to help them understand the inspiration behind their art projects. • Students will use a variety of stamps to create a printed background for their artwork. • Students will incorporate their hand-print(s) using tools such as a brayer, and block-printing ink as a medium. • Students will create an original art print inspired by the work of artist Andy Warhol • Students will demonstrate elements of SEL as they work both individually and collaboratively on an art activity.

  6. Important Art Vocabulary: • Background:Part of the artwork that is in the back, or the farthest away. • Print:A print is a shape or mark made from a stamp or plate that is covered with wet color and then pressed onto a flat surface, such as paper or fabric. Most prints can be produced over and over again by re-inking the stamp or printing block or plate. • Repeat:Using or saying something over and over again. Andy Warhol liked to do this in his art work. • Overlap:When one thing lies over, partly covering something else.

  7. SEL Application/Survey: • Name some important things to remember when working either alone, or together, on an art project. • Why is it okay for each of us to have different ideas? • How might you show respect to yourself and others when working as a class or in small groups? • What are some ways to direct not so good (or negative) behaviors into good (or positive) behaviors? • Did you enjoy working more on your individual project or your collaborative project? Did you enjoy them both the same? • Would you like to work together again on a project like this one? If so, do you have any ideas or suggestions for next year?
