  2. What is SJVCSS? San Joaquin Valley Council for the Social Studies • Local organization serving California Region VII Counties • Tulare, Kings, Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced • Affiliated with California Council for the Social Studies • Affiliated with National Council for the Social Studies

  3. Who can join SJVCSS? • History/Social studies (HSS) educators • Pre-service teachers • Teachers k-12 • Professors of history and social sciences • Administrators • Retired HSS teachers and administrators

  4. Why would educators join SJVCSS? • By joining SJVCSS you automatically join CCSS. By joining CCSS you can: • networking with creative teachers from around the state, • run for office, • join active working committees, • receive the scholarly journal, • enjoy a discount at the annual conference, • present at the annual conference, and • benefit from a regular e-newsletters, The Sunburst, and podcasts from the legislative analyst.

  5. What does SJVCSS do locally? • provides a discount for local professional development : Scholar Series • has local actively working committees: technology, political advocacy, banquet, curriculum, events, publicity and recruitment, and teacher recognition • holds bimonthly Board Meetings anyone may attend, but not vote • nominates a Teacher/Professor/Administrator of the Year to be recognized at our spring award ceremony. • has elections for Board Members each year, and our 4 member Executive Committee every other year. • socializes with educators around the country at http://facebook.com/sjvcss • hosts a website at http://SJVCSS.org

  6. How do I join? • Go to the CCSS website and join CCSS. • The cost is $60 per year, and that includes membership in SJVCSS. • The cost for students is $35 per year.

What can I do for free? • friend SJVCSS at http://facebook.com/sjvcss • visit our website at http://SJVCSS.org • attend Scholar Series $10/session • attend our bimonthly Board Meetings • serve on one of our committees: technology, political advocacy, banquet, curriculum, events, publicity and recruitment, and teacher recognition • become or nominate a Teacher of the Year to be recognized at our spring awards ceremony. • attend the awards ceremony
