Goldilocks and the 3 Storage reusable Bins in ChicagoI imagine you have read the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, but have you ever heard the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Storage reusable Bins? With all the stores promoting huge discounts on storage bins this time of year, I thought it would be fun to tell my version of this classic tale called 'Goldilocks and the 3 Storage Bins'.It was blustery day in January when Goldilocks happened to stop in at a local big box store. She couldn't believe her eyes. There were bins of all shapes, size and color. To top it off, the store was having a huge discount on storage bins with most bins at 50% off or more.Goldilocks had been meaning to get her place more organized because it was looking quite cluttered lately. "Storage bins would be the perfect solution for all those books I never read" said Goldilocks. But with so many choices and so little time to make a decision, how would she know which bin would be the perfect bin for her needs?"I have the answer" she said. "I will take 3 bins home with me. Surely one of them will be perfect".Goldilocks smiled happily as she paid for her bins knowing what a great deal she got. After all, bins are not on sale at such a good price at other time of the year. She headed to her car and had a little trouble fitting one of the bins into her car but with persistence, the bin fit. "Perfect", she said. When Goldilocks returned home, she quickly brought the bins inside and set them in the middle of her room. She was very pleased with herself and went to collect the books she wanted to store in the perfect bin.Goldilocks put the books into the first bin. It was the largest. "Oh no", she said. "This bin is too big for the books and it is also too big to fit on my storage shelf".Since the first bin was way too big, Goldilocks thought she should try the smallest bin next. "Surely everything will fit into the smallest bin".Goldilocks smiled from ear to ear. Everything fit. Or did it? As Goldilocks looked around, she realized she missed 2 books that needed to stay with the other books. To make the other 2 books fit, she had to take everything out and rearrange the contents very carefully. She had to do this several times before everything would fit. Goldilocks was not happy. "This is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle and I don't like jigsaw puzzles. How am I going to remember how to put everything in just the right way every time I take a book out to read?" At that, Goldilocks realized the small bin was not the right bin for her needs.Goldilocks moved on to the last bin. It was not as big as the big bin and not as small as the small bin. "Surely, this medium bin will suit my needs" she said. With that, Goldilocks placed everything into the medium sized bin. Goldilocks was very happy. "All of the books fit easily into the bin, there is even a little room left over and the lid closes. This medium bin is perfect for my needs". Goldilocks smiled, put her hands on her hips and said "That's that".Now you may think this is the end of the story, but it is not.You see, Goldilocks didn't realize the medium bin was made of a very cheap plastic. When she went to lift the full bin, the bin twisted and then cracked along the bottom from the weight of the items inside. The bin was broken and of no use now.Goldilocks was very sad. She realized that she now had 2 reusable bins Chicago that would not work for her needs and a 3rd one that was broken. She would have to make a trip back to the store to return the 2 bins and any money she saved was lost because the 3rd bin was unusable. It was a tough lesson for Goldilocks but it was a lesson that helped her in the long run.The moral of the story...A great deal is not always a great deal if it does not suit your needs.Did you find this post helpful?
