The purpose of your time on earth is not primarily about acquiring possessions, attaining status, achieving success, or even experiencing happiness.
Life is all about love and developing relationships with God, and with other people.
Learning to love is life’s most important lesson.
“My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other.” 1 John 4: 11 “Mga minamahal, yamang gayon kadakila ang pag- ibig ng Diyos sa atin, dapat din tayong mag- ibigan.” (Tagalog)
Compelled to LOVE
I. LOVE is a COMMAND Our decision to love is an act of obedience. “And this commandment we have from Him; whosoever loves God must also love his brother.” 1 John 4: 21 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13: 34
I. LOVE is a COMMAND Our decision to love is an act of obedience. “The message you heard from the very beginning is this: we must love one another.” 1 John 3: 11
Three Foundations for Living a Life of Love • God’s lovefor us gives us • the reason to love others. 2. God’s love in us gives us the ability to love others. 3. God’s love through us gives us the way to love others.
II. LOVE requires COMMUNITY We cannot obey Christ command in isolation. We have to be connected to each other in order to love one another.
Like a diamond, love is multi - faceted.
WHAT DOES LOVE LOOK LIKE ? It has hands to help others… feet to hasten to the poor and needy… eyes to see misery and want… ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like. - Augustine -
COMMUNITY is the context where we learn to love. It allows time for interacting, sharing, questioning, and praying for each other.
III. LOVE carries HIGH STANDARDS Our love is not to be measured by the minimum of what we can do, nor is it limited to only those who appear deserving. Our standard for real love is that God so loved us that He sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins… since God loved us that much, we surely are compelled to love each other.”
HEAT MAKES ALL THINGS EXPAND. And the warmth of love will always expand a person’s life. - Chrysostom -
We love God by loving others. “People who don’t love other believers, whom they have seen, can’t love God, whom they have not seen.” 1 John 4: 20
