Le Jardin de Campagne Character: natural and lush, accented with gracious curves and flowing patterns. Resembles the beauty of the French countryside with the unkempt, but stunning, display of free growing plants. Provides a functional and useful outdoor living area.
Le Jardin de Campagne Vegetable and herb gardens are common elements, as well as fruit and nut bearing trees, but secluded sitting areas and romantic blooms are equally important aspects of this design. Fragrant, country rose bushes, climbing vines full of color and fragrance, and grapevines reminiscent of French country vineyards are often included.
Le Potager French herbs can be planted and cultivated in a French style potager garden, popular beginning in the Middle Ages. The plants chosen for the garden were picked not only for their uses, but for their aesthetic beauty. Instead of using green basil, a purple variety would also be introduced. All plants were placed in geometric beds to create beauty and often they were separated by color or shape. In the Renaissance, borders were placed around the beds and ornamentation, such as fountains or urns, were added.
