Author Information Lewis Carroll was the pseudonym for Charles Dodgson. As a child he contributed to the family magazine by writing poems and short stories. At Oxford University, he taught Mathematics. Other famous books written in the 1850’s were Uncle Tom’s Cabin, The Scarlet Letter, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In the very next decade, the USA would be at war with itself in the Civil War.
