ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY • Established in 1875 by the great social reformer Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. • Granted the status of Central University in 1920. • 280 courses in traditional and modern branches. • 12 Faculties with 80 Departments of study. • 16 Halls of residence comprising 69 hostels. • 30,000 Students and 2000 Faculty members. • 2 functional centers have been set up at Malappuram (Kerala) and Murshidabad (West Bengal). Other centers are proposed to be set up at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Pune (Maharashtra), and Kishnaganj (Bihar) are functional.

ZAKIR HUSAIN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY • Constituent of Aligarh Muslim University, a Central University. • Founded on 21st November 1938. • Named after Dr. Zakir Husain, Former President of India. • It stands as an epitome in the field of Engineering and technology. • PG Course started in 1965. • Doctoral Programme started in 1969 .`

ZHECT: THE DIFFERENCE LIES HERE • NPIU RANKING The National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) under MHRD ranked ZHCET at no. 4 out of the 236 institutes surveyed for the purpose of funding under “Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQUIP)”. • 100 Million Grant Under TEQUIP ZHCET has been awarded a grant of Rs. 100 Million under the TEQUIP in 2011. • NBA Accreditation All the courses accredited by the NBA for a period of 5 years (maximum duration) with effect from 10th February , 2009.

  7. DIFFERENCE LIES HERE : • RESEARCH PERFORMANCE Based on research publications, the DST has sanctioned its prestigious PURSE scheme to support the departments of ZHCET. In the last 5 years, more than 1500 research papers have been published. • GRANTS FROM DST & DRS The Dept. of Electronics has been accorded the prestigious Dept. Research Support Status by the UGC. The DST has also awarded Rs 1.3 Crores under FIST scheme to the Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Rs. 1.4 Crores to Dept. of Mechanical Engineering • UPGRADATION STATUS Was identified out of 400 Institutions across the country and put in the list of 7 selected Institutions to be upgraded to the level of IIT by the Joshi committee.

  9. STRENGTH OF FACULTY • Around 190 Faculty members • Faculty is to student ratio of 1:2.

STRENGTH OF FACULTY • 70% faculty with 10+ years of teaching experience • 6 faculty members visited foreign universities in faculty exchange programs last year. • In the past 5 years, more than 1500 research papers have been published by the faculty and 37 projects have also been completed successfully.

  14. In the short span of time since its establishment in 1991, the Department has performed exceedingly well on academic front. Salient features of The Department • Well-equipped laboratories including software lab, networking lab, microprocessors lab and VLSI lab. • Dedicated seminar library housing a huge collection of resources including journals of national and international repute. • The students have fared commendably in various national as well as international level competitions like GATE, CAT, GRE, TOEFL etc. • GATE ranks 11 and 14 in the last academic session itself.   16. Established in 1988, the department has made remarkable progress in terms of developing infrastructure, updating course structure and syllabi and upgrading laboratories. DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING The idea of the creation of the Department was born with the visit of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan of the UAE in 1975 as a beginning towards the larger goal of establishing an Institute of Petroleum Studies. The department was established in the year 1978.

  26. DEPARTMENT OF PETROCHEMICAL ENGINEERING The department was established in the year 1984. Various laboratories relating to testing and determining the characteristics and properties of refinery and petrochemicals products, petroleum and petrochemical processing and other facilities have been established in the department.

  31. Students’ Achievements • “GSM based Home Automation System” project carried out by two B. Tech. (Electronics) final year students guided by Prof. Ekram Khan , won second prize worth Rs. 100 Thousands in the prestigious national level competition ‘ENGINEER ∞’, which was a part of the International Exhibition of Electrical and Industrial Electronics (ELECRAMA-2010) held in Mumbai from 20-24 January 2010. • Mohd. Hasan was awarded Marquis Who’s Who in the world for contribution to Engineering Sciences. • Mr .Syed WasifHaider, successfully qualified for Indian Administrative Services through The Indian Civil Services Exams 2010. • Gaurav Kumar and Ashish Kumar qualified IES with 1st rank (Mechanical) and 8th rank (Electronics). • 3 final year students from 2012 batch got admission in top Management colleges of the country- Rameen Khan and S. SafdarKazim in IIM-I and Mohammad Areeb XLRI. • KashifHasan got admission in IIM-C for PGP. • Around 12 students are pursuing MS from foreign universities which include the University of Iowa, Imperial College, University of Ireland etc. • In 2009-10, about 55 students qualified GATE and in 2011 about 77 students qualified GATE. • IEEE branch of AMU organised an all India paper presentation competition which saw a huge participation from all over India.
