Women inventors in Europe : some gender issues • 2006 European Inventor of the Year Awards: •  winners were all men ,.  • It appears that women, lone inventors, ethnic minorities and products that do not fit their high-tech and scientific criteria would find it a huge challenge to ever win one of their awards • There were approximately 49 speakers and they were mainly men - with only approx 4 women speakers over the 2 days – demonstrating that this is still a male dominated area.   • concentration on high-technology and science • “Soft tech “ products which are often invented by women – some science – but for home, family, children eg Any way up cup • Few countries have disaggregated data on patents by gender (Finland)
