Welcome! Strategy 1: Take Reasonable Risk Substrategy: Go For Goal Slideshow Courtesy of: Danielle Woods FIPSE Coordinator at The Ohio State University
Strategy 1: Take Reasonable Risk • The EMPOWERING strategy. • People who achieve are those who challenge themselves, but don’t set themselves up for failure. • Knowing yourself is key!
Strategy 1: Take Reasonable Risk • “Easy” and “Hard” as descriptors of task difficulty are relative to your current skill level. • What’s “easy” for me may not be easy for you!
Strategy 1: Take Reasonable Risk • As skill increases, so does the difficulty level of “reasonable risk.” • The bigger your muscles get from lifting the heavier you can start out your work-out. Your “reasonable risk” for injury is higher.
Substrategies for Taking Reasonable Risk • Go For Goal • Setting realistic, attainable goals. • Goal setting has been studied extensively in everything from academics to athletics to interpersonal relationships.
Substrategies for Taking Reasonable Risk • Bite Size Pieces • Breaking large task into smaller one. • Planning to read an entire textbook tonight is “unreasonable”. • Planning to read a chapter (or even part of a chapter) is “reasonable”.
