Learn how to create empty feature classes in NHD personal geodatabase Hydrography dataset for importing pre-existing data.

Creating empty feature classes in Hydrography feature dataset This Powerpoint will describe the creation of empty feature classes in the NHD personal geodatabase Hydrography dataset. Some corrections or additions to the NHD may best be performed by importing pre-exisiting lines or polygons into the feature dataset. The new empty feature classes are created to accommodate the importation of such features into the NHD personal geodatabase. The new feature classes can also be used as source data for the Replace Geometry editing function.
(Creating Feature Classes) ArcCatalog: Browse to 1804_alb personal geodatabase Right click on Hydrography feature dataset Choose NewFeature Class
(Creating Line Feature Class) Name: Import_Line Type of features stored in this feature class: Line Features Coordinates include M values. Coordinates include Z values. Next >
(Creating Line Feature Class) Accept Default values Next >
(Creating Line Feature Class) Left click on Data Type Geometry
(Creating Line Feature Class) Geometry Field Properties are exposed
(Creating Line Feature Class) • Ensure that • Allow NULL values is “Yes” • Geometry Type is “Line” • GRID 1 is 0.1
(Creating Line Feature Class) Click Finish
(Creating Polygon Feature Class) To create Import_Poly, repeat steps for Import_Line, except (Browse to 1804_alb personal geodatabase Right click on Hydrography feature dataset Choose NewFeature Class) Name: Import_Poly Type of features stored in this feature class: Polygon Features (Coordinates include M values. Coordinates include Z values. Next >) (Accept Default M-Tolerance values Next >) Left click on Data Type Geometry and expose Geometry Field Properties Ensure that Allow NULL values is “Yes” Confirm that Geometry Type is “Polygon” Confirm that GRID 1 is 0.15
(Creating Polygon Feature Class) The new feature class is created When finished, close ArcCatalog
