How does the EU protect and promote the cultural, historical and natural heritage in Macedonia Macedonia is not a member of the EU yet, but the European Union protects the country's cultural heritage. These cultural values are promoted and protected through various funds and grants. Here is an overview of some of the most important manifestations and locations that represent the Macedonian cultural, historical and natural heritage.
The most important cultural and historical treasures of Macedonia
KrusevoFirst Republic in the Balkans . The monument Ilinden (Makedonium) was built in 1974 in honor of the First Republic of the Balkans, created in Krusevo in 1903. The republic lasted only 10 days. Interior of the monument Ilinden (Makedonium)
Memorial House of Todor Proeski Museum - dedicated to one of the most famous music stars in the Balkans, Todor (Toshe) Proeski, who died when he was 26 years old in a car accident that occurred in 2007. This is one of the most visited museum in Macedonia, by August of 2018, it has visited more than 600 000 people, from many countries in the world, and especially the Balkans.
Galicnik Wedding The New York Times and National Geographic proclaimed the Galicnik Wedding for the most traditional wedding festival in Europe. Before the bridegroom enters, the bride from the window or from the door looks through the wedding ring three times, saying: "I see you through the ring, to enter in your heart!"
