A Predictive Movement Based Handover Algorithm for Broadband Wireless Networks Po-Hsuan Tseng , Kai-Ten Feng National Chiao-Tung University WCNC 2008
Outline • Introduction • Proposed Mechanism • Performance Evaluation • Conclusions
Introduction (Handover procedure of 802.16e -- Network Topology Acquisition)
Introduction (Handover procedure of 802.16e – Handover Processing)
Motivation and Goal • Conventional mechanism handover with signal only • To reduce the handover frequency with predictive mechanism
Proposed PMHO Algorithm(Predictive Sideline-Traveling Scheme) • InitializationBSS: All the BSs that are within the transmission range of MS (except serving BS) BSS={BSA, BSC, BSD}
Proposed PMHO Algorithm (Predictive Sideline-Traveling Scheme) • Periodic Updates of the Scanning Set BSS={BSA, BSC, BSD} BSS={BSC, BSD}
Proposed PMHO Algorithm (Predictive Sideline-Traveling Scheme) • Prediction of Traveling Sideline(Delaunay triangulation)
Proposed PMHO Algorithm (Predictive Sideline-Traveling Scheme) • Prediction of Traveling Sideline
Conclusions • A predictive movement-based handover (PMHO) is proposed for the IEEE 802.16e. • Without calculating the precise location of the mobile device. • The simulation results illustrate that both the handover number and size of the neighbor-scanning set can be reduced.
