$9,995.00 Do not soak or submerge your cutting boards! Keep your hardwood cutting board clean by wiping off with a towel after use. We use a bench scraper to scrape down our butcher block and cutting boards after each use. This handy tool is fast and simple to use. We use a simple hot soapy towel to wipe down and then a dry towel to finish cleaning our cutting boards! If you want to sanitize the board more, quickly washing it with hot soapy water after each use and dry it with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. If you want to sanitize the board more thoroughly, a diluted mixture of chlorine bleach or vinegar solution consisting of one teaspoon of liquid chlorine bleach in one quart of water. Do not soak or submerge the board in water, for this will disrupt the moisture content and cause the rails to split. Wood cutting boards are not dishwasher safe.
$1,995.00 Lemon or lime juice with a little salt will go a long way to reducing odor. Sprinkle your cutting board with kosher or table salt. Cut a lemon or lime into quarters and use these quarters to rub the salt into the board, squeezing juice onto the board as you go. Let sit for 2 minutes and then wipe the cutting board clean with a damp cloth. Use a clean paper towel to remove excess water or let the board air dry by standing it on end. Reapply mystery oil or board cream.
$48.99 The oil you use for your wooden cutting boards and utensils should be food grade and not prone to rancidity. Mineral oil is an inexpensive and popular choice, and you can easily find bottles in most kitchen supply stores. Personally, I like to use a homemade mixture of beeswax and mineral oil, such as this one. There are also brand-name cutting board creams and oils available in kitchen supply stores.
$84.99 Before you start, be sure your boards are very clean. I like to give them a scrub with lemon and salt, as shown in this method. The boards should also be dry before oiling, so be sure to build that into your timing. The oil should be left to soak in as long as possible, too. I try to apply the oil in the evening before bed and then just give them a quick wipe the next morning to take off any excess oil.
