  2. Purpose of create smoke signals • Smoke signals seen for miles make for useful communication for Native Americans to warn of danger or while away from their families.

  3. A puff of smoke that is either short or long conveys the point of each message.

  4. How to Make Smoke Signals • To create smoke signals, place a blanket over the fire. • Add grass and young branches to create more smoke.

  5. How to Make Smoke Signals • To send a short puff of smoke lift the cover quickly, then put it down. • For long puffs of smoke, lift the cover for a longer time.
