How does your media product represent a particular social group? DAMAGED Holly Higgins
Our main female character. The mise-en-scene gives clues of the females age. Showing her in a park and the woods with her sister shows that perhaps she is a slightly younger teenager of about 13/14. showing her looking for her sister is an indicator for the fact that she is venerable. Our main female character is a typical teenager she likes hanging out with her friends and is very close to her sister. Through the representation of her in most of our opening title sequence she is shown as a venerable young girl that is struggling with the lose of her sister, however we do revel the other side as she is seen hitting her father over the head. I believe that you can see a link between our main female character and the main female character in ‘orphan’. This is because the both come across a venerable, however they show a more devilish side once faced with something they don’t like of that they disagree with.
Our main male character • Our main male character gender is revealed in the opening title sequence however his age is not. From props and his action we know that the character is and older male and the images do reveal that the character may in fact be the girls father. I believe that having a male character out of touch with the world may in fact be an aspect of many thriller films. The representation of the male character is largely dependent on the props used. We see him with a large amount of wine bottles on the table indicating his alcoholism. We also witness him scribbling out images of the two people that have gone missing from the family showing his violent nature. The mise-en-scene has been set up to indicate the characters personalities. His clothing was designed to look like a slob, showing that he had no interest in leaving the house and no longer had pride in his appearance. He relates to the male character because he is facing the issue by starring at it right in the face but because of this he is no longer in touch with his emotions, so therefore not able to function properly. They are both in a state of shock about what they have done.
