Enhancing Student Performance with Digital Tools in Geometry Instruction

This study by math teachers focuses on using GeoGebra to improve geometry understanding. It compares traditional and alternative methods, showing how digital tools can enhance learning outcomes. The experiment involved different classes and evaluations, indicating positive results that can be extended to other schools in the region.

  1. Improving the students performance using digital tools in geometry instruction • Nagy Hunor – math teacher in middle school • Dr. Kupán Pál – math teacher at Sapientia University • Tg-Mures - Romania

  2. I talk about: traditional • Teoretical parts: • Practial parts: alternative Digital tools My experiment using GeoGebra Conclusions

  3. Traditional methods: • Limits: • If don’t edit a right figures how can proof with the wrong figures • If don’t have spatial vision, they make wrong 3d figures Lecture Explanation Disscusion Illustration Project Homework

  4. Alternative teaching methods: • teamworks • Differentiated education Alternative schools, classes: • Step by step • Waldorf

  5. UBIM UNIVERSAL BASIC INTELLIGENCE MODELLING • I want to try • It was very expensive

  6. E-learning system’s, AEL • AEL - Advanced E-Learning

  7. Teaching software’s Euklides Geonext GeoGebra

  8. My experiment: • Experimental group • Test after the traditional teaching • Use GeoGebra • Test after experiment with GeoGebra

  9. The experimental group • VII-th class (13 years students)

  10. The test: • Problems type: • I.part: True or False answers, or fill in the missing parts • II. part: Multiple answers, find the right one • III. part: Problems that solves need detailed solutions

  11. Using GeoGebra– VI.th classes • 1. The segment. The angle. • 2. Editing triangles • 3. Parallelism, perpendicular lines. • 4. Medians,altitudes,angle bisectors,perpendicular bisectors • 5. The triangles properties.

  12. Using GeoGebra- VII.th classes • 1. The quadrilateral properties • 2. Pythagorean theorem. Distance between two points. • 3. The isosceles right angeled triangle - hypotenuse • 4. The right angeled triangle - altitude, area • 5. The equilateral triangle – altitude, area. • 6. The trapezoid.

  13. Using GeoGebra- VIII.th classes • 1. Positions between wo lines. • 2. Positions between line and plane. • 3. Positions between two planes.

  14. Tests evaluation: experiements results

  15. Conclusions • The students like to use GeoGebra • The feedback come from more students • In VI-th class experiment the perfomance is visible • I want to make an experiment in VIII-th class with another experimental groups • I also like’d to give this experiments to other teachers in our region in middle and in primary shools.
