1. Become a child of God. Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Colossians 2:12 “Having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”
2. Let God through His Holy Spirit work in you. Acts 2:38 “Repent and let each of you be baptized inthe name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” It takes work to grow spiritually so that you can live the abundant life that God has planned for us. God’s Holy Spirit living in you makes it possible to live that abundant life!
3. Spend time learning the teachings of Scripture. James 1:21 “Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
4. Live according to the teachings of Scripture. James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Realize that God’s way is the best way! 2 Timothy 2:22 “Flee from youthful lusts, and instead follow after righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”
5. Commit to growing spiritually. Ephesians 4:13-15 God wants us to “attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children . . . but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him.”
6. Know and follow God’s will for your life. JESUS did it – John 6:38 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” PAUL did it – Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
